PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize a weighting addition coefficient used for synthesizing a plurality of input images in super-resolution. SOLUTION: A plurality of input images (IN<SB>k</SB>) with low resolution are acquired by photographing. Each of the plurality of input images is changed to a high-resolution one by pixel interpolation to generate a middle generation image (MID<SB>k</SB>), while a position deviation between different input images is detected. A weighting addition coefficient (w<SB>k</SB>) suitable for removal of folding distortion is computed, based on an evaluation function having the detected position deviation as a parameter. A corresponding image signal of each middle generation image is weighted and added according to the weighting addition coefficient to generate an output image. The evaluation function is variably set up according to the photographing condition of the input image. For example, when the ISO sensitivity of the input image is high, an evaluation function is adjusted so that increased noise due to the high ISO sensitivity may be removed preferentially, as compared with removal of folding distortion.
