PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transition metal complex useful in an olefin polymerization catalyst capable of producing a high molecular weight olefin polymer. SOLUTION: The transition metal complex is represented by formula [1] (wherein M is a group 4 transition metal atom in the element periodic table; A is a group 16 atom in the element periodic table; J is a group 14 atom in the element periodic table; Cp is a group having a cyclopentadienyl type anionic skeleton; R6is a 3-20C alicyclic hydrocarbon group; R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, X1, and X2are each an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryloxy group, halogen, hydrogen or the like).
