PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet processing apparatus and an image forming apparatus capable of performing binding processing on a part for arranging a gripping part of a sheet bundle even if having a gripping apparatus for gripping one side of the sheet bundle to be bound. SOLUTION: A gripper unit 40 is moved in the direction for crossing with one side of a sheet, and the gripper unit 40 is positioned in a discharge position for discharging the gripped sheet and a connecting position connected to a staple unit 41. The staple unit 41 can be moved to a binding position without securing a retreat space by moving the gripper unit 40 in the same direction as the moving direction of the staple unit 41 connected by the connecting position.
