<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inform a driver that an overload of a predetermined value or more is applied to the steering main shaft by an abnormal sound and vibration caused by looseness. <P>SOLUTION: A steering column of this electric power steering device includes the steering main shaft 20 connected to steered wheels 75R and 75L and a column tube 30 for rotatably supporting the steering main shaft 20, and is installed in part 90 of a vehicle body via support mechanisms 40 and 50. The moving distance of a steered mechanism moving from the steered wheels 75R and 75L to the steering main shaft 20 is regulated by steering stoppers 76R and 76L. The rotational driving force of an electric motor 61 installed on a column tube 30 can be transmitted to the steering main shaft 20.
