PURPOSE: A focus detecting apparatus is provided to prevent the focus failure due to a noise and improve the performance enhancement for the change of a product specification. CONSTITUTION: A focus detecting apparatus comprises an average calculation part(110), a difference image output unit(120), a dispersion output unit(130), and a focus indexing output unit(140). The average calculation part calculates the average of specific blocks in which currently processed pixel is included. The difference image output unit produces the difference image of average which is calculated by the average calculation part. The focus indexing output unit produces a focus indexing by applying weighting value to the difference image.
