摘要 To provide an optical communication system (1) capable of preventing an increase in a signal processing time or a response time and also preventing a decrease in a bandwidth or a degradation of an optical signal quality even when extending a communication distance or increasing the number of subscribers by inserting a reach extender (10000) in an optical fiber of an optical communication system (1), and a method of controlling a communication bandwidth thereof. The optical communication system (1) wherein a master station (OLT 10) is coupled to a plurality of slave stations (ONUs 20-1 - 20-n) by an optical fiber network (40) comprising an optical splitter (30) and a reach extender (10000), wherein the master station (OLT 10) includes a first bandwidth control section (300) which determines, based on an uplink signal transmission request from each of the slave stations (ONUs 20-1 - 20-n), a first data amount of an uplink signal transmitted in a first cycle, wherein the reach extender (10000) includes: a distance measurement section (610) which measures a transmission distance or a transmission time between the reach extender (10000) and each of the slave stations (ONUs 20-1 - 20-n); and a second bandwidth control section (310) which determines a second data amount and transmission timing of an uplink signal based on an uplink signal transmission request from each of the slave stations (ONUs 20-1 - 20-n) and the first data amount, and wherein each of the slave stations (ONUs 20-1 - 20-n) transmits an uplink signal with a data amount, which the first bandwidth control section (300) determined based on a data amount and transmission timing determined in a plurality of second cycles, to the master station (OLT 10) in the first cycle.
