[Also in Division B8] A thermoplastic resin sheet having a sharplyoutlined pattern delineated by areas of different colour is made by joining together parts of one or more intermediate ribbons or sheets having a linear sequence of different colours, e.g. by winding the ribbon on a core 22, Fig. 6, so that successive turns of the material in a heat plasticized condition fuse together, and removing the winding from the core, or by lapping an intermediate heat plasticized sheet, Fig. 7 (not shown), to form a block, and cutting sheets from the block. Fig. 2 shows an extrusion die head equipped to receive three differently coloured thermoplastics 4, 5, 6 which are channelled into ducts 15, 16, 17 in a rotary distributer 11. Ribbons are extruded from slots 18, 19, 20 in stationary die head 25 and a sequence of colours is formed as required in each ribbon by rotation of distributer 11 to bring one or other of ducts 15, 16, 17 into alignment with one or other of slots 18, 19, 20. A modified die head, Fig. 3 (not shown), produces intermediate sheets instead of ribbons. Core 22, Fig. 6, comprises a plurality of endless metallic belts 21 which move the winding off the core. The winding is subsequently cooled and cut to obtain the required patterned sheet. The intermediate ribbon or sheet may be made other than by extrusion, e.g. by fusing together numbers of differently coloured strips (26), Fig. 8 (not shown), and then cutting the product (27) so formed into intermediate sheets (28-30), Fig. 9 (not shown), or ribbons (31).
