PURPOSE: An automatic gain control method and apparatus therefore are provided to automatically control the gain of the frequency band combination by using gradient value and to reduce the resolution degradation of a signal. CONSTITUTION: Gradient value is calculated to compensate a frequency band signal in a frequency band set(S210). The minimum value is determined as a representative value(S230). A common gain value is compensated to compensate the size of a frequency band signal(S250). The size of each frequency band signal, which is included in next frequency band set, is re-compensated(S270).
