PURPOSE: A flavonoid compound derived from Vitex rotundifolia is provided to reduce Bcl-2 expression in cancer cells and to induce cancer cell apoptosis. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating cancer contains Vitex rotundifolia extract as an active ingredient. The extract is isolated using methylene chloride or methanol. The extract is also H_2O, n-BuOH, 85% aq. MeOH, or n-hexane fraction. A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating cancer contains flavonoid compounds of chemical formula 1 derived from Vitex rotundifolia or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient.
