1,045,007. Rotary liquid flowmeters. SOC. ANON POUR TOUS APPAREILLAGES MECANIQUES AND SOCIETE GRENOBLOISE D'ETUDES ET D'APPLICATIONS HYDRAULIQUES. Feb. 26, 1965 [May 28, 1964], No. 8436/65. Heading F1F. In a rotary liquid flow meter including a helical bladed rotor 1, Fig. 1 rotatable by the flow of liquid through a conduit 2 in which it is mounted, the conduit bore includes a frustoconical section and the rotor is axially displaceable by the liquid flow against resilient means to extend the range of flow rates over which the meter will read within acceptable limits of accuracy. In a meter in which accurate readings are required for small rates of flow and which the rotor blades 1 are relatively long the bore includes a converging conical section 7 downstream of the rotor which is loaded by a spring 4 bearing against a fixed abutment 5. As the rate of flow progressively increases the rotor is correspondingly axially displaced to progressively reduce the clearance J1 between the conduit bore, resulting in an automatic increase in the rotational rate of the rotor at lower rates of flow. In a meter having a relatively short bladed rotor a divergent conical section is disposed upstream of the rotor so that with increased flow the clearance between the conduit bore and the rotor progressively increases to decrease the rotational rate of the rotor. The meter may also include the flexible deflector or deflectors upstream of the rotor described and claimed in Specification 1,044,595 to still further extend the accuracy range of the meter. |
