Flour is discharged from a hopper 1 by means of a plurality of helical springs 5, the flour being discharged downwards at 30, Fig. 1, through pivoted gate 32 or upwards at 31, Fig. 2, into a trough 35. The springs 5 are mounted in a casing 3 secured to the bottom of the hopper 1 and are supported centrally by a decompression structure 16 which keeps them separate. The springs are rotated through gears 11 and 11<SP>1</SP> by means of two endless chains 23, 23<SP>1</SP> driven by a motor 26. The casing 3 includes two deflectors 12 which cover springs 5<SP>1</SP> positioned at the sides of the hopper 3. The springs 5 cause a movement of the flour axially towards the discharge outlet 30 or 31 and additionally cause movement towards both sides. The flour which travels towards the sides is discharged by the end springs 5<SP>1</SP> which are relieved of direct pressure by the deflectors 12. The springs 5 are mounted sufficiently close together to avoid vaulting in the flour and are disposed slightly above the flat floor 4. |
