PURPOSE: An apparatus for preventing recording of image data using an HDMI(High-Definition Multimedia Interface) card and a method thereof are provided to minimize the damage of a content provider due to a counterfeiting by restricting the recording for a currently reproduced image. CONSTITUTION: A player monitors the reproduction of an image data or the image data is being reproduced(S100). If an image data detected, it is checked whether a hardware device capable of recording the image data including HDMI card exists or not(S200). If a hardware device with recording function is detected, the recording operation is restricted through the player(S300).
