PURPOSE: A matrix converter and a controlling method thereof are provided to improve a voltage transmission rate without the quality deterioration of an output voltage and an input current. CONSTITUTION: A rectifier(120) comprises a plurality of switches. The rectifier rectifies a first AC voltage of three phase to a DC voltage. A converter(140) converts the DC voltage into a second AC voltage. A controller(160) generates a first control signal. The first control signal controls the on-off of the switches of the rectifier.
