[Also in Division B8] A film strip cutter and punching apparatus adapted to provide successive segments of film strip from a continuous film web comprises drive means, feed roller means 20, 21, Fig. 3, coupled to the drive means and adapted to advance a predetermined length of the web, rotary cutter means 27, 28 coupled to the feed roller means and adapted to trim the side edges of the web, and co-operative shear and punching means linked to the feed roller means and operative between successive periods of web advance to sever a segment of the web and concurrently to punch a plurality of spaced apertures in the web. The shear and punching means comprises an upper plate 38, Fig. 6, having fastened thereto a blade 39 and punches 42 to 44 and a lower plate 40 having fastened thereto a blade 41 and provided with apertures 45 to 47. The apparatus comprises side frames 11, 12, Fig. 3, between which is journalled a rotatable crank-arm 8 on which ride eccentrics 13, 14 connected by linkages 15, 16 to the upper portion of the shearing die assembly. The arm 8 has attached thereto a crank-arm 18 which is coupled to the shaft 19 carrying roller 20 by means of a connecting rod 25 and a swivel arm 23 carrying an over-running clutch 22. The clutch 22 is coupled to an over-running clutch 48 and the shaft 19 is provided with an indexing knob 59. Pressure between the rollers 20, 21 is adjustable by means of a handle 50. The cut film strips are conveyed into a receiving tray by means of a guide 52, Fig. 1, which comprises a pair of divergent passageways (56, 57), Fig. 8 (not shown), and a baffle (58).</p> |
