Disclosed is a surface light source device (10) equipped with: a plurality of light-guides (21), each arranged in parallel in the longitudinal direction of the device with gaps therebetween; a plurality of light sources that each introduce light via at least one end surface of the light-guides (21) in the longitudinal direction thereof; diffusion plates (15) disposed on the light emission side of the light-guides (21) in order to extract the light that is guided through the interior of the light guides; and support members (31) for maintaining prescribed gaps (22) between the light-guides (21). The support members (31) comprise members which transmit light and disperse light, such that it is possible to reduce the occurrence of variations in brightness caused by the support members supporting the light-guides.
