A contact, the surface of which has been planished without prior roughening, is resiliently urged against a semi-conductor element. In the embodiment semi-conductor wafer 2 is sandwiched between the planished surfaces of contact 3 and copper base 1. Preferably the planished surface 1a lies in a well the side walls of which locate the wafer laterally, though in the arrangement shown a PTFE sleeve provides the lateral location. The contact pressure exerted by the Belleville washer 10 is determined by the extent to which the steel cup member 8 is screwed into the steel sleeve 4. The sleeve is brazed to the copper base at shoulder 6, through which the reactive force of the spring is transmitted. The housing is sealed off after being evacuated and, if desired, gas-filled through hole 21 in sleeve 4 and tubule 19 in the metal-insulator cap 17. Ceramic cup 12 and the upward extension 15 of the contact serve to locate the washer assembly and its associated steel bearer ring 11. |
