PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wound closure device which has a pivotable pawl for closing a wound. SOLUTION: The wound closure device includes a shaft which specifies a longitudinal axis and a pawl assembly which is connected to the shaft operably. Here, the pawl assembly includes a housing and at least one pawl which is installed in the housing pivotably and can be positioned between a first position and a second position. In the second position, at least one pawl is engaged so that it locks on tissue adjacent to the wound in order to maintain a wound in a closed position and facilitate the treatment of the wound.
