PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably apply a cleaning liquid on a liquid ejection face of a liquid ejection head without being affected by change in ambient temperature. SOLUTION: This head cleaning device includes a cleaning liquid applying unit 204 that applies a cleaning liquid on a nozzle face 150A of a head 150 by ejecting the cleaning liquid from a plurality of cleaning liquid nozzles 208, a cleaning liquid tank 206 for supplying the cleaning liquid to each of the cleaning liquid nozzles 208 by utilizing a hydraulic head difference with respect to the cleaning liquid applying unit 204, a temperature sensor 224 for measuring a temperature of a peripheral portion of the cleaning liquid tank 206, and a cleaning process control section 226 for controlling a relative pressure of the cleaning liquid tank 206 to the cleaning liquid applying unit 204 based on the temperature measured by the temperature sensor 224.
