PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of preventing a pseudo contour (blur of moving image) even if a response time of a liquid crystal element is changed, in a constitution where a rise or fall of the liquid crystal element is completed in a turn-off period of a backlight light source. SOLUTION: The turn-off period in the intermittent light activation of the backlight light source is controlled in accordance with a response time of the liquid crystal element so that the rise or the fall of some or all of the liquid crystal elements in a liquid crystal panel may be finished in the turn-off period of the backlight light source. More specifically, the turn-off period of the backlight light source is controlled in accordance with the response time of the liquid crystal element that is changed according to an extent of the abnormally increased responsiveness (overshoot and undershoot) of the liquid crystal element and a variation of display gradation.
