PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electroluminescent element achieving light emission with high luminescence from each quantum dot and high color purity in a narrow-band spectrum. SOLUTION: The electroluminescent element is constructed by layering a transparent electrode 12, a first insulating layer 13, an adhesion layer 14, a light emission active layer 20, a flattening layer 15, a second insulating layer 16, and an electrode 17 sequentially on a glass substrate 11. The adhesion layer 14 is formed of an inorganic layer having a Young's modulus not higher than that of a shell layer 23 and disposed on the surface of the light emission active layer 20, and the bonding surface with the light emission active layer 20 protrudes to get into the clearances between the quantum dots 21.
