PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head that achieves high recording density by suppressing erasure and deterioration of information recorded in an adjacent track while securing on-track recording capability, and to provide a disk drive with the same. SOLUTION: The magnetic head of the disk drive includes a slider, and a head section disposed in the slider to perform information processing on a recording medium 12. The head section includes a main pole 66 applying a perpendicular recording magnetic field to a recording layer, a recording coil 71 exciting the main pole, a write/shield pole 68 facing the trailing side of the main pole across a write gap and configured to form a closed magnetic path with the recording medium, and side shields 70 disposed on both sides of the main pole in a track width direction to face the side face of the main pole and to be magnetically separated from the main pole. In the side-shield side faces facing the side face of the main pole, a part positioned at the shortest distance from the leading end of the main pole side face on the opposite surface has permeability lower than that of the other part of the side shield.
