PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head-mounted display which makes the depth of a focus deeper so that an in-focus state is easily obtained for an observer, and easily adjusts an exit pupil by a projection part to the pupil of the observer. SOLUTION: The head-mounted display includes: the projection part which projects image light in accordance with image information to the eye of the observer; a variable diaphragm which is arranged at a position optically conjugate to the exit pupil by the projection part, and can vary a diaphragm position and/or a diaphragm diameter; a detection part which detects the pupil position of the eye of the observer; and a control part which controls the variable diaphragm in accordance with the pupil position detected by the detection part.
