PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a facial portion of a person from an image mainly photographed with high accuracy and to photograph a high-quality person image. SOLUTION: When detecting a facial portion of a person from an image mainly photographed, and if a face is detected just before main photographing, only a region where the face is detected is defined as a region to detect the face and other regions (regions where the face is not detected) are excluded from the region to detect the face. Namely, in the area where the face is not detected just before main photographing, since a probability for the face to be present also during main photographing is extremely low, such a region is excluded from the detection target region. Only the region, where the face is detected just before main photographing, is defined as a detection target region and face detection is performed with high accuracy and at high speed.
