PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thread tension device of a sewing machine capable of stabilizing the tension applied to a thread. SOLUTION: The thread tension device has an annular elastic member 21 between the second thread tension tray 23 and a fixed part 24. The force which the elastic member 21 pushes toward the second thread tension tray 23 is dispersed and uniformed in a peripheral direction even in the case the force which the second thread tension tray 23 applies to the elastic member 21 is not uniform in the peripheral direction because the reaction force of the elastically constricted elastic member 21 is dispersed. Accordingly, the force by which the first thread tension tray 22 and the second thread tension tray 23 pinch the needle thread is uniformed in the peripheral direction thereby the tension which the first thread tension tray 22 and the second thread tension tray 23 apply to the needle thread is stabilized.
