Pharmaceutical compositions comprise, in a form suitable for oral administration, an antitussive (chosen from d-methorphan hydrobromide, codeine, narcotine, caramiphen ethanedisulphonate, dimethoxanate hydrochloride, dihydrocadeinone, 1-propoxyphene napsylate, carbetapentane citrate, and claphedianol) together with a physiologically acceptable protease chosen from bromelain, trypsin, chymotrypsin, and papain. The composition is referably in an enterically-coated unit dosage form, such as a tablet or capsule, and may contain inactive diluents or excipients, and other active ingredients, those specified being 1-phenylephrine hydrochloride, pyrilamine maleate, and homatropine hydrobromide. The enteric coating may be of cellulose acetate phthalate. |
