<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color liquid crystal display element causing no display unevenness around a display area by securing uniform thickness of a liquid crystal layer over the whole display area regardless of an arrangement structure of a color filter. <P>SOLUTION: Respective color elements 6R, 6G and 6B of red, green and blue constituting a color filter 6 are filled in respective openings 51 of a black mask 5 without squeezing-out, with the openings 51 dividing a pixel formed in a matrix arrangement. In the peripheral frame area D2 surrounding a display area D1 having respective pixels (subpixels) Pr, Pg and Pb in a matrix arrangement, a dummy color filter 7 is provided over the substantially entire circumference keeping a distance C from the boundary line L between the display area D1 and the frame area D2.
