PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing retransfer dirt or strike-through of a solid portion or bold letter portion and capable of obtaining gradation reproducibility of a photograph when printing the photograph including the solid portion or the bold letter. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus having a printing unit for performing printing on a printing medium includes: an image input unit 1 for inputting image data; and a control unit in which, on the basis of image data inputted by the image input unit 1, a gamma thinning-out processing part 21 performs thinning-out processing based on a predetermined density conversion curve, on a region having less than a predetermined density, a pattern thinning-out processing part 33 performs thinning-out processing based on a checkered pattern, on a region having the predetermined density or more, and image data after thinning-out processing are output from an image output unit 4a.
