PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for detecting a sintering material charging state capable of accurately measuring layer thickness throughout the entire in a width direction of a sintering material charging layer on a sintering machine pallet, and thus, accurately acquiring the entire state of the sintering material charging layer and manufacturing sintered ore with a high production rate and strength, and to provide a sintering machine using the same. SOLUTION: This device detects the sintering material charging state of a Dwight-Lloyd type sintering machine manufacturing the sintered ore by sintering the sintering material charged on the sintering machine pallet 8. The device includes a layer thickness detecting part 33 detecting the layer thickness in the width direction orthogonal to the conveyance direction of the sintering machine pallet 8 of a surface of a charging layer 9 in the upper part of the sintering machine pallet 8, and a layer thickness distribution index computing part 38 computing a charging layer thickness distribution index with a correlation with the strength of the sintered ore based on the layer thickness of the charging layer in the width direction detected by the layer thickness detecting part.
