PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric kettle which can prevent user from being burned by preventing blowing steam from leaking when the upper lid is opened or closed. SOLUTION: The electric kettle includes a kettle body having an opening on its upper part in which a certain amount of water is stored, a heating means to heat up the liquid stored in the kettle body, a lid member which covers the opening on the kettle body and can be opened and closed, a controlling means to control the heating means, a temperature sensor to detect the temperature, and a steam guide having an opening for steam which can freely emerge from the wall of the lid member. When the lid member is mounted on or removed from the kettle body of the electric kettle which has the temperature sensor on the depressed part of the kettle body having a surface to be attached to the lid member, the steam guide connected to the operation button, spring, link member, and spring in sequence approaches the temperature sensor to be in air tight status by turning on the operation button provided on the lid member.
