PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device achieving power saving by reducing a backlight quantity without making a user feel an image quality deterioration caused by visual reduction in luminance or in contrast even when there exists maximum luminance in a screen. SOLUTION: The display device includes: a display part (panel) for displaying a video signal, a driving part, a local gradation conversion part; and a control part for controlling the local gradation conversion part and the driving part. The local gradation conversion part performs gradation conversion for brightening a halftone (while emphasizing local contrast), based on conversion characteristics different from one position to another in the screen to improve visual luminance.
