PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus or the like for improving the appearance of the details of images when compressing colors. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus for correcting image data supplied to an image output device includes: a color compression unit for compressing the saturation component of the image data by a compression ratio compliant with the combination of the brightness component and hue component of the image data on the basis of the color gamut of the input image and the color gamut of the image output device; a correction amount calculation unit for calculating the correction amount of the saturation component of the image data compliant with the compression ratio for the image data of a given spatial frequency band; and a correction unit for correcting the saturation components of the image data compressed by the color compression unit using the correction amount.
