The magnetic inductive flow meter has a measuring tube (1), a magnetic inductive flow measuring element arranged at the measuring tube and a device for generating magnetic field (B). The device is arranged in such a way that the magnetic field is put through the measuring tube in horizontal direction. An electrode is set on a lower side of the measuring tube. Another electrode is set on upper side of the measuring tube. An electrode extension made of a weak electrically conductive magnetic material is connected to the latter electrode. An independent claim is also included for a method for using a magnetic inductive flow meter.
