<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus including a reading portion that reads information from a wireless tag attached to a consumable unit, wherein the image forming apparatus can have a high degree of accuracy of reading even if consumable units move in accordance with movement of an attachment part. <P>SOLUTION: A laser printer 1 includes: a wireless tag reader 80 having a reading range having directivity toward the center of the opening 2A, at the upper edge of an opening 2A; and a drawer case 35 moving between a use position and a replacement position through the opening 2A. A plurality of process cartridges 40 are attached to the drawer case 35 so as to be attachable and detachable. Each process cartridge 40 has a cartridge tag 45 in a predetermined position on the top surface thereof. When the drawer case 35 moves between the use position and the replacement position, the respective cartridge tags 45 pass through the reading range of the wireless tag reader 80 in order in accordance with the movement of the drawer case 35.
