PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric heater which detects an abnormal state while cooling a body back face and stops heating operation. SOLUTION: Air is made to flow from a lower ventilation hole 51 at the lower end of a back face panel 7 into the lower space 52 of a body case 3, pass through a draft ventilation passage 54 and flow out of an upper space 53 to the body case 3. Normally, air at a high temperature is made to pass through a communication part 56 of a heat shield plate 20 and flow into an uppermost space 55, and remaining is made to pass through an upper ventilation hole 50 at the upper end of the back face panel 7 and flow out outside the body case 3. Thus, since the back face panel 7 and a front face panel 6 are cooled, this prevents burn injury etc. even if the back face panel 7 and the front face panel 6 are touched. Normally, the temperature of the uppermost space 55 having no section from which high temperature air made to flow in comes out is increased, and when the temperature reaches temperature operating a thermistor 46, the abnormal condition can be detected so as to stop the heating operation.
