PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability of a reporting operation without increasing costs. SOLUTION: The security system includes: a security terminal which has at least a PHS module capable of transmitting and receiving radio data by a PIAFS communication control procedure, gathers security information to be an object for security, and transmits and receives it as reporting data using the PHS module; and a monitoring center which gathers the reporting data from the security terminals disposed in respective regions through a public network. The PHS module has a communication system of: a public mode for transmitting and receiving radio signals to/from the base station of a radio cell to which the security terminal belongs and performing communication with the monitoring center through the public network; and a transceiver mode for performing inter-terminal communication by the radio signals with the security terminal positioned nearby. The monitoring center includes a detection means for detecting whether the reporting data are transmitted periodically as a regular report at a predetermined time interval from the security terminal.
