PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which can reproduce a low grayscale level with high accuracy, even when a laser having a kink region in input/output characteristics is used. SOLUTION: The display device includes a signal generating section which outputs pixel signals 7r, 7g and 7b, corresponding to the grayscale levels of pixels that constitute an image; lasers 5r, 5g and 5b that emit laser light having intensities with dependence on the pixel signals 7r, 7g and 7b; and signal adjusting sections 8g and 8b that superpose high-frequency signals 9g and 9b on the pixel signals 7g and 7b inputted to the lasers 5g and 5b, respectively. The signal-adjusting sections 8g and 8b superpose the high frequency signals 9g and 9b on the pixel signals 7g and 7b, respectively, the high-frequency signals having amplitudes equal to or wider than the width of the kink region W, where the input/output characteristics of the lasers 5g and 5b change most steeply.
