摘要 1,247,212. Making self-locking threaded fasteners. USM CORP. 2 Jan., 1969 [3 Jan., 1968], No. 298/69. Heading B3A. A machine for making self-locking threaded fasteners 68 comprises a rotatable work-holder or dial member 14 provided with means 62 for holding fasteners 68 at uniform spacings, means for step-by-step rotation of the workholder, and a plurality of work heads 16-20 disposed around the work-holder, each work head comprising a tool holder 114 reciprocable between steps in the rotation of the work-holder. The threaded fasteners 68 are fed by gravity down a ramp 82 at a feeding station and as the dial member rotates through its next step, a spring loaded roller 76 moves radially outwardly along the camming surface of a cam 80 thereby pivoting an arm 72 to hold the fastener in the work-holder 62, Fig. 5. The work heads 16, 17 perform first and second coining operations to form an opening in the workpiece and the work head 18 reforms the threads on the workpiece. The head 19 inserts friction material into the coined opening and the head 20 reforms the threads on the workpiece and on the inserted material. The work head 16 is driven by an electric motor (22) via a belt and pulley drive and an indexing mechanism (42), constant rotation of which causes step-by-step rotation of the dial member 14, Fig. 1 (not shown). The drive to the head 16 rotates a planet gear 54, which meshes with a ring gear 56, Fig. 4. The other heads 17- 20 are also provided with planet gears 54 similarly meshing with the gear 56, and the operating mechanism in each head 16-20 is identical. The gear 54 is locked to a shaft 94, which is provided with an eccentric portion 104. An anvil 110 bears on the portion 104 and is threadably received in a cylindrical member 106. A retainer rod 112 is secured at one end to the anvil and at the other end to a tool holder assembly 114. The rod 112 is biased towards the portion 104 by a spring assembly which bears on a stepped portion of the rod and on fixed guide pins 118. The anvil is formed with a gear portion 130, which meshes with a gear 132, and rotation of the latter causes relative rotation between the anvil and the member 106, thereby adjusting the position of the tool holder. After the final thread reforming operation by the head 20, the fastener is indexed to the next station, where the cam 80 pivots the arm 72 to release the fastener. A blast of air from a nozzle 81 forces the fastener into a receptacle below an opening 83.
