PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device in which a low gradation level is accurately and easily reproduced even when a laser having a kink area in its input/output characteristic is used. SOLUTION: The image display device 1 includes: a light source part 2 which emits laser light having an intensity corresponding to a driving signal 7 including an image signal; a scanning part 3 in which two-dimensional scanning is performed with the laser light emitted from the light source part 2; and a light detection part 10 which is disposed at the position where the laser light for detecting timing and emitted from the light source part 2, when the scanning timing of the scanning part 3 is detected and scanned with the scanning part 3, is made incident. The light source part 2 includes a signal producing part 6 which produces a driving signal 7 and a signal adjustment part 8 which superimposes a high frequency signal 9 upon the driving signal 7 input to the laser 5. When the signal production part 6 outputs the driving signal 7 for emitting the laser light for detecting timing, the signal adjustment part 8 stops the superimposing of the high frequency signal 9 upon the driving signal 7.
