PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat treatment method of steel reducing CO<SB>2</SB>gas emission, reducing energy costs necessary for releasing a CO<SB>2</SB>gas from an absorbent absorbing the CO<SB>2</SB>gas, and suppressing generation of new CO<SB>2</SB>, and also to provide a method of manufacturing mechanical components, and a heat treatment furnace. SOLUTION: This heat treatment method of steel has processes of: heating a heated object in a heating chamber (S20); discharging an exhaust gas including CO from the heating chamber (S40); generating a combustion exhaust gas including CO<SB>2</SB>by combustion of an exhaust gas (S50); recovering combustion energy (S60); absorbing CO<SB>2</SB>in the combustion exhaust gas by the absorbent by chemical absorption (S70); releasing CO<SB>2</SB>from the absorbent (S80); and recovering the released CO<SB>2</SB>(S90).
