PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filtering apparatus for vacuum cleaner which can increase the cleaning property of the filtering material without spoiling the air tightness between the filter frame and the filtering material of a filter under a suction cleaning state. SOLUTION: The filter 31 includes the filtering material 32 which is stretchable so that the pitch of parallel pleats may become narrow under the normal state and may become wider under the filtering material cleaning state, end section seal materials 34 and 35 which are fixed onto both end sections in the stretching direction of the filter material, and a downstream side edge section seal material 37. The seal material 37 is fitted on the end section of a downstream side groove which is formed between the downstream side pleats of the filtering material into a state to allow the expansion of the filtering material, and at the same time, is installed in a manner to close the end section of the downstream side groove under the normal state. The filter frame which is arranged on the four edges of the filter 31 includes a first frame section 25 and a second frame section 26 which support the end section seal material and third and fourth frame sections 27 which support the end section in the extending direction of each pleat of the filter. The frame section of a certain section is made separable from the other frame sections. Downstream side seal material receiving sections 29 and 30 are installed in a manner to come into contact with the seal material 37 and the downstream side pleats which continue with each other in the expanding direction of the filtering material from the downstream side of the filtering material under the normal state.
