A method for precipitating calcium carbonate and xylan comprises - adding birch pulp, in which the specific surface area of the fibres has been increased, to a solution of calcium hydroxide in water, - allowing xylan to dissolve from the fibres in the solution of calcium hydroxide in water, and- bringing the aqueous solution of calcium hydroxide then in contact with carbon dioxide, for precipitating calcium carbonate and xylan.
