Pile fabrics, especially imitation furs, which pile is constructed of fibres of, e.g. cellulose acetate or triacetate, polyacrylonitrile, polyamide or polyester are coloured by applying at least one disperse dye to the ends of the pile fibres and then heating the fabric so that the dye migrates down the pile fibres giving a colouring that is shaded off within the thickness of the pile. A single dye or a mixture of dyes may be employed especially of dyes having different migration properties. The dyes may be applied as aqueous dispersions by brushing or spraying or in the solid (powdered) state either uniformly over the whole surface or locally over parts of the surface. The treated fabric may be dried and then heated at 150-200 DEG C. An example of dyeing an imitation fur containing 80% acrylonitrile. |
