<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superluminescent diode capable of suppressing laser oscillation with a simple design to achieve incoherent light, as well as, improving the symmetry of the shape of an emitted beam. <P>SOLUTION: The superluminescent diode includes a semiconductor crystalline layer in which an optical waveguide 202 is formed in part, wherein a light emitting end face 203 capable of an emission light is formed on one end face of the optical waveguide 202, and the light-emitting end face 203 does not coincide with a cleavable crystalline surface in the optical waveguide 202. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
