PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a talc powder suitably used in a resin composition that is excellent in balance between physical properties and specific gravity and can be used for various applications such as interior and exterior articles for automobiles, components of household electric appliances and components of business machines. SOLUTION: The talc powder is obtained through dry grinding and/or classification of talc ore, provided that the talc ore has a half value width of the 12th-order diffraction peak of 1-30 degrees as measured in an orientation analysis by a wide-angle X-ray diffraction method.
