PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate a heat-sensitive element with more favorable responsiveness. SOLUTION: An image heating device includes: a heater 71 in which a heat generating resistor which generates heat by receiving power is disposed; a thermoswitch 75 that is operated by heat generated as a result of an abnormal temperature rise of the heater 71 and stops the supply of power to the heat generating resistor; and a spacer 76 that is disposed between the heater 71 and the thermoswitch 75 and softened by the heat generated as a result of the abnormal temperature rise of the heater 71. When the spacer 76 is softened by heat due to the abnormal temperature rise of the heater 71, the thermoswitch 75 approaches the heater 71, thereby operating the image heating device 7. In the area where the spacer 76 is sandwiched between the heater 71 and the thermoswitch 75 opposite the heater 71, an area of contact between the projecting portion 76d of the spacer 76 and the heater 71 is smaller than an area of that between the softening portion 76b of the spacer 76 and the thermoswitch 75.
