Iron oxide catalysts are reduced at atmospheric pressure on up to 1 atmosphere in excess thereof using a reducing gas containing 0.02 to 1% by volume of ammonia. The catalyst may be activated with K 2 O, Al 2 O 3 , CaO or MgO. The most usual iron oxide to be subjected to such reduction is Fe 3 O 4 . |
