Aqueous formaldehyde solutions are stabilized by having dissolved therein an aminotriazine of the formula <FORM:1083725/C2/1> wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are hydrogen atoms, or alkyl cycloalkyl, alkenyl, alkylamino, alkylamido, hydroxyalkyl or alkylaminoalkyl groups, alkyl groups substituted by alkylamido groups or alkyl ester or alkylether groups, aryl, alkaryl, aralkyl, oxyaryl or arylether groups and R5 is a -NR6R7 group (in which R6 and R7 hav the same meanings as R1, R2, R3 and R4 but at least one of R6 and R7 is different from hydrogen and at least one of R6 and R7 is different from hydroxymethyl and hydrogen when R1, R2, R3 and R4 are hydroxymethyl or R6 and R7 together with the N-atom represent a piperidino, piperazino, morpholino, thiomorpholino, melamino, benzoguanamino, alkylguanamino, formoguanamino or pyrrolidino group) or a methylol derivative thereof or an organic or inorganic salt thereof. The stabilizer is dissolved in the formaldehyde, preferably at a temperature between 20 DEG and 80 DEG C. |
