A curtain rail provided with two parallel tracks 3, each provided along its length with a gap, and one or two members which are manually movable by raising or lowering between a first position in which the movable members (or member) close the gap to complete the tracks 3 and a second position in which the gap is open so that runners may be passed through the gaps on to or off aligned extensions 9 of the tracks 3. In an embodiment, Fig. 2, two movable members 5 may be raised, as shown, so that runners may be passed through gaps defined by notches 7a in support parts 6 for the members 5 in their lowered position. In another embodiment, Fig. 3b, movable members 10 are hinged at their outer edges. The members 5, 10 may be spring urged to the gap-closing position. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, a movable member 11 may be displaced upwardly against a spring bias 12. In a modification (Fig. 5) independent, L- section, spring biased members are provided one for each track. In another embodiment (Fig. 6) a complete intermediate rail section (17) is hinged to swing downwardly to open the gaps. In a further embodiment, Fig. 8, a rail with wooden reinforcements (48, 49) is fitted with detachable members 50 each carrying a movable member 55 which is held at one end by a leaf spring. In a further embodiment, Fig. 11, a resiliently flexible gap-closing member 35 has a tongue 40a received in a longitudinal cavity 32 in the rail. A support member 36 is secured, at 41, 42, to the movable member 35. A support member for the free end of the movable member 35 has a portion 37 engaged in a track cavity 32. The rail may be provided with a threading attachment, Fig. 13a, comprising an auxiliary rail 18 with a detachable arcuate end 19 provided with formations 20, 22-24 by which it is located on the rail at the gaps. A flexible element 25 in the rail 18 has a handle 26 by which it is manually displaceable to push runners 21 on to the rail tracks 9. With the auxiliary rail 18 removed, Fig. 14, runners with bores 27 in their heads may be removed on to a flexible rod 29 capable of being formed into a closed ring. The rail end is provided with a resilient gripper (28, Fig. 16) to releasably retain an end runner. |
