Method and device for optimising the energy consumption of machine tools

The method involves detecting current- or power consumption of a machine tool in an operating condition, and comparing the current- or power consumption of the machine tool with a given threshold value. The machine tool is switched into a power-free condition, if the detected current- or power consumption of the machine tool for a given time interval falls below the threshold value. The machine tool is switched by reduction of the current- or power consumption of the machine tool such that the consumption is lowered to a quiescent value lying below the threshold value. An independent claim is also included for a mechanism for optimization of energy consumption of machines.
