[Also in Division F2] An indexing mechanism e.g. in a turret lathe or for a work-table for the assembly of electronic components comprises a rotary member or dial having a series of equally spaced roller followers disposed around the periphery thereof and arranged to co-operate with a cam which is rotatable to index the dial and which in the course of each revolution is moved axially to bring part thereof into and out of engagement with the followers. The cam 21 has portions at two levels and includes a cylindrical portion 26 which is of sufficient diameter to bear on two adjacent roller followers 12a, 12b to lock the dial during part of the rotation of the cam, a cut-out portion 26a into which the middle roller of a set of three roller followers can project to allow the cam to be moved axially towards the dial for indexing which is then effected by the cam portion 27. Axial movement of the cam 21 towards and away from the table is effected in suitably timed relation to the rotation thereof by means of a fixed roller cam 24 and follower 25 the latter rotating with the drive shaft 22 on which the cam 21 is mounted. |
